Games I Like – Incursion – Do it yourself bases

Hey all, Another quick update on the Incursion front.

The lads over on the Secrets of the Third Reich and Incursion Official Forums asked how I did the bases for my APE squad so I whipped up a quick how-to on them.

Here’s what I used…

Games Workshop Basing Kit – Brass Etch
Games Workshop Basing Kit – Slate
– Playground Sand
Green Stuff Putty (to fill gaps)
– PVA Glue
Plastic ‘I Beam’ available from Model Train shops
Citadel Colours: Graveyard Earth, Codex Grey, Astronomicon Grey, Boltgun Metal, Vermin Brown,

The basic idea for the bases was I wanted them to look like… go figure… the inside of a cavernous set of tunnels!

After cleaning and affixing the body of the APE to the base, I used putty to fill the ‘holes’ on the left and right where the slot was still open.

I then broke up some chunks of slate and glued them at random intervals. To spice up the base I’d put in a brass etch flywheel or a chunk of I beam. I then just used some PVA glue to add sand all around the detail bits.

Once the model was painted I gave the whole surface of the base a basecoat of Graveyard earth. It was then drybrushed Codex Grey and then Astronomicon Grey. The metal detail bits were painted Boltgun Metal and then lightly glazed with a 50/50 mix of Vermin Brown and water to give it a rust effect.

Voila! Some cave bases!

I’ve done much the same for all the Axis guys as well.
